Less Than 500 Days To Go!
There are less than 500 days to go before the first pitch takes place at the Surrey 2016 WBSC XV Women's World Softball Championship. What better way to kick this off than with a celebration! Last night, our Host Organizing Committee welcomed government representatives, community business leaders, event sponsors & supporters, softball friends, athletes, and volunteers to share in the excitement of our upcoming world championship, and to thank those who have put countless hours into making Surrey 2016 a possibility!
“We are committed to creating an unparalleled World Championship experience for everyone involved,” says Greg Timm, President of the Canadian Open Fastpitch Society. “The 500 days to Surrey 2016 countdown will be a great opportunity to celebrate the sport of softball.”
And it was just that. We received tremendous feedback from those who attended the event, and look forward to getting out into the cultural, sport, and business communities to generate additional support and enthusiasm for our event.
“The excitement is building as we hit the 500-day mark before the start of the 2016 XV Women’s World Softball Championship in Surrey,” said Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. “Being chosen to host the best women’s fastpitch players from more than 30 countries is a testament to our reputation as a premier sport hosting destination.”
Thanks again to everyone who was able to attend - we are very excited for the next 499 days as we prepare to welcome the world to Surrey in 2016!
